Wally Yovich opened a sharebroking office in Whangarei in 1968. We’ve been here ever since.
What began as a local sharebroking presence has gradually evolved into a modern investment and wealth advisory firm, working closely with individuals and families across Northland on long-term financial decisions.
Throughout that time, the focus has stayed the same. Clear, independent advice. Relationships clients can rely on.
Wally Yovich became a country member of the Auckland Stock Exchange, establishing a local sharebroking presence in Whangārei.
At the time, access to markets and investment advice was far less accessible outside of the main centres. This created an opportunity to provide local investors with direct access, practical guidance, and someone they could deal with face to face.
During the 1980s, Wally was involved in a number of capital markets activities, including:
Wally also served as a director of companies including United Transport and Michael Hill International, maintaining a close connection to both listed markets and the wider business community.
The company was registered as Yovich Sharebrokers Limited, formalising the structure of the business and reflecting its core broking services at the time.
The focus during this period was on providing reliable execution and market access, supported by strong relationships with clients.
Following the Financial Advisers Act 2008, the business began moving away from purely transactional broking. The shift was toward a more advice-led approach.
This reflected a broader change across the industry. Greater emphasis on suitability, client outcomes, and long-term planning rather than individual transactions.
The firm became Yovich & Co Limited, reflecting a broader focus beyond sharebroking.
The change marked a gradual move toward portfolio management and ongoing advice as a core part of the service.
Jarrod Goodall joined the business in 2012 to develop the advice process and build out portfolio management.
This included building a more structured approach to how portfolios are managed, and how advice is delivered to clients over time.
Jarrod became a Director.
Angela Goodall joined to strengthen operational and back-office processes.
Migration to the NZX Wealth Technologies platform, improving portfolio administration, reporting, and oversight.
Angela appointed director.
These changes have supported the ongoing development of the firm’s systems, processes, and client service capability.
Wally’s influence remains central to the business.
He believed in long-term relationships, careful decisions, and showing up locally. That’s still how we work.
Today, the business continues to build on that foundation, while adapting to the needs of modern clients, changing regulation, and an evolving investment environment.
